kasper jacek
kasper jacek's (b. 1989) practice is based on an exploratory work with materials. jacek creates works that seek to break with an understanding of how the world and what we see are connected. materials, movements, colors, scales, and figuration/non-figuration intertwine and unravel, illustrating elements that are constantly in motion and exploring asymmetry.
in jacek's works, fleeting moments are explored—moments where one loses the ability to see clearly: a moment when the perception of the world becomes blurred, smeared, or challenged. these are the moments jacek's works investigate: moments where vision is not a tool we fully master, but something that sees illusions, something exposed to and overwhelmed by the world—and in that process, opens up new ways of seeing. visual distortion is one of the fundamental metaphors in jacek's works and is understood as a kind of opening to the world, where we see things differently.
“my collage works are always in flux; a constant back and forth between erosion and sedimentation of different materials and meaning. as I add, rip, rearrange and destroy the materials, my works are constantly falling out of place, fragments of material and meaning are both added and lost in this process. my ambition is to explore objects, places and landscapes that are both appearing and disappearing at the same time, much like a vision: nothing is entirely there — and nothing is lost. i consider my works multi-temporal scenes, exploring landscapes or places in which myths, old objects, memories and possible futures are all haunting the present simultaneously.” - kasper jacek
