game of chairs // maria & natalia petschatnikov
"we must play - but we must play seriously".
this quote from the great danish designer hans j. wegner could be used to define both the theme and the title of petschatnikov’s exhibition at albert contemporary. the show consists of several series of paintings that tell stories through the furniture and spaces they occupy, be it rough cardboard models, dollhouse furniture from an online catalog, discarded furniture from the streets of berlin, furniture from vilhelm hammershøi's psychological interiors, or artists' studios.
spaces, real and imaginary, time-specific and timeless, are meant to invite viewers to play the game of chairs and create their own narratives.
